Channeling Matisse in a Hooked Rug with Diane Phillips

  •  Wednesday, March 8 and Wednesday, March 15,2023
  • 10am - 4pm both Wednesdays
  • What makes Matisse’s work so delicious?  One aspect of his paintings is the pleasing mixture of colors, textures, and patterns.  Beginning and advanced rug hookers alike will enjoy creating a 11” x 14” wall hanging is both beautiful and purposeful. As you progress through your hooking experience you will learn a number of techniques that can serve you with future rugs.  The poppies are a delightful combination of hand dyed wool and variegated yarn.  Adventuresome hookers might add in a bit of silk velvet for texture.  The vase is decorated with “cat’s paws” of varying soft shades on a background of Crème-Brulé tones.  The vase sits on a table of close valued textured wool milled expressly for rug hooking.  On one side of the background is a black and white checkerboard.  Surrounding the entire picture is a slim black and white “beaded” hooked wool border.  The different uses of color and technique come together to create a lovely hooked piece that can be used as a wall hanging, a table mat or perhaps one side of a unique market bag
